HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

hope everyones happy from pigging out on bak kwa, peanut cookies and suckling pigs!

this is the 2nd year that im away from my family for chinese new year. i was sailing last year but i got the chance to go for reunion dinner and 2nd day bai nianing. this year, it seems unreal. seeing my family get ready to go bai nian thru the webcam, pulling myself out of bed at 3am to bai nian to my ah gong and extended family. with 2 oranges, i wished all the good wishes, spoke all good greetings and sent my utmost pining and longing over webcam.

had a "reunion dinner" over at ian's place where im putting up for the time being. prepared steamboat and it was so funny cos i felt like a mother with kids over the dining table where everyone was fighting for food and arguing about who gets to eat the prawns. ha.

walked down to chinatown on the actual day itself, and boy it was packed. families decked out in their best (aka in chinese traditional clothing sometimes) were out in full force, (u can trace the generations). there was a parade with lion dances and all flowers and everyone was just packing the streets. it felt like singapore chinatown in the chun jie bazaar. but it was nice soaking up the atmosphere.

well.. i gotta get used to not being home, hopefully ill get to celebrate cny with my family next year when i go to shanghai next spring and they fly over!
